Ten BIG joys for little old me šŸ’•

10 Small Joys I Look Forward to Every Day

Life can be so fast sometimes work, responsibilities, scrolling through endless notifications or just fucking fb but in the middle of all that, there are these tiny, golden moments that make the day feel a bit softer. I’ve learned that happiness doesn’t always come from the big events or the huge milestones. Most of the time, it’s tucked inside the little rituals and everyday joys that we don’t always stop to notice… until we do.

Here are ten of mine.

1. That First Cup of Tea (or Coffee)

You know the one the one that practically hugs you awake I fucking love it I have milky but strong tea with four (yes four) sugars! That first sip feels like the world pressing pause, even if just for a minute. Especially now I’m in my ā€œsoft girl eraā€ I try to appreciate everything and I swear it tastes better than any other cup of the day.(I have to limit mine because four sugars more then once a day is lethal) tea and tablets I do first thing… well after feeding the cat or he judges šŸ˜

2. Morning Sunlight

When the sun slips through the shutters and warms up the room, it feels like nature’s way of saying: ā€œHere you go another fresh start.ā€ Even on days when I don’t feel 100%, that little glow is enough to lift me. I can understand why sometimes in the winter people feel low. Although I love the sound of rain the same.

3. Burning a Wax Melt or Candle

There’s something instantly comforting about lighting a wax melt or candle and letting the scent fill the room. Whether it’s lavender, vanilla, or something seasonal, it’s like giving the house and yourself a little treat. That gentle aroma has a way of making everything feel calmer and more grounded. This has been a lot lately since I learnt to romanticised my life.. don’t judge you’re not a cat šŸ˜

4. A Walk Outside

It doesn’t need to be a long hike. Just stepping outside, breathing in fresh air, and hearing the crunch of gravel or leaves under my shoes it resets me. I fucking dread it and put it off but like my dad says ā€œenergy breeds energyā€ and I hate to say it but of course it’s true šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø I always try to notice something new: a bird, a flower, a neighbour’s dog trotting happily along. I try to find the beauty in everything nowadays because when life’s been so cruel even the little things can be beautiful in contrast.

5. Chats That Make You Laugh Until Your Stomach Hurts

We all have those people I like to call them the ā€œpeople I find my funny withā€ the ones who can turn a five-minute conversation into therapy and stand-up comedy rolled into one. Those laughs stay with you for the whole day. I have a lot of these people my sister although I seldom see her, my ex brother in law (I know weird) my friend ā€œLā€ or ā€œEā€ these are people who I really get my funny out with and it makes me feel like a kid and I love it.

6. Cooking Something Comforting

It could be as simple as toast with too much butter or something I actually spend time on. The smell filling up the kitchen is half the joy. I’ve got into the habit of cooking again recently after years of taking a sabbatical and we’ve started to have the roast again every Sunday and jeez it’s nice to be back home again šŸ˜ that’s how it feels.

7. Fresh Bedsheets

Climbing into a bed with crisp, clean sheets is such a ridiculously underrated pleasure. It’s like a reset button for your whole body. New sheets for me are the best which reminds me I really need to get round to treating myself to some new ones.

8. A Hot Shower at the End of a cold Day

That moment when the water hits your shoulders and the day starts sliding off—it’s simple but sacred.

I actually dread the lead up to it and getting out as it as it’s sensory overload for me but once it’s done I’m so so glad I’ve done it. It feels so much better before bed.

9. Noticing Something Beautiful by Accident

A really pink sky. A flower pushing up through concrete. A stranger holding the door. Beauty shows up in sneaky little ways, and when you spot it, it feels like a secret gift. I appreciate everything so much nowadays, the worlds been so ugly for me that the littlest gift from god feels like the biggest blessing šŸ’•

10. The Quiet Before Sleep

When the lights are out, the house is calm and bears asleep thank god and you can finally hear your own thoughts (the nice ones, not the racing ones). That’s when I feel most grateful. With my daughter by my side as co sleeping never stopped šŸ˜ that’s a whole other story although she’s only 8 so we have a few more years šŸ˜‚

Final Thought

None of these things cost much. They don’t need planning. They’re just there, woven into the day, waiting to be noticed. And when I do notice them, they remind me that joy doesn’t have to be loud or dramatic it can be as simple as tea, scents, laughter, and sunlight. I’m hoping now I’ve pointed them out you may see them as beautiful too.

Happiness hides in the small things. And I’ve decided I don’t want to miss them anymore.
